Our Ukraine Adoption

We have created a journal for all of our friends and family to follow us on our adoption in Ukraine. We ask for your prayers as we go on an adventure of a lifetime and hopefully come home with a sister for Jordan and Chase and a daughter for us.

Hello From Kiev

Well, alot has happened this week. We arrived in Ukraine Sunday afternoon, met with our translators.... This morning we went to the NAC. I was very nervous. Lee was very calm. We simply walked in with our translator Tanya. We looked through red binders after talking to a very nice NAC psychologist. She asked us a few questions. Very simple. She said she knew we wanted a girl because we have 2 boys. She pointed out one "very good" little girl in Odessa. That is on the Black Sea. So we said we would like to meet her. Right now we will have to wait for paperwork in Kiev. Probably won't get it until tomorrow. Then we will make travel arrangements to Odessa. We don't know yet if this will be our daughter, but we are excited at the possibility. She is just over two years old. She was very recommended by the NAC staff as very healthy. The orphanage director said she was a good child. I had hoped for a younger child, but the younger ones either had something severe wrong.
We do not have much time on the internet. We just wanted to say hello, give everyone an update as much as possible and to say we love you all. Thank you for your prayers. We are very hopeful right now that things are going good.

By the way, anyone getting ready to travel, this is for you. Wear what you want! We were told dark clothes. That may be true in winter, but not summer. People wear bright clothes. Women wear mostly skirts or jeans, but some men wear shorts. Our translator (first one) picked us up in the airport with a Hawaiian style shirt, light shorts, black socks and light tennis shoes. I thought this was funny because everyone says no bright Hawaiian style clothes.

Weather is beautiful! We have a nice "flat". Very sweet people helping us. I know I'm rambling. I'm just putting thoughts as they come. We made it through customs with no problems. We hope to go to Odessa tomorrow, or next day. We may not post until after we meet our referral.

Hope to see you soon.
Shannan and Lee
